Around fall of last year I had the good fortune of attending my younger cousin’s wedding in Mexico City. A place that has inspired many of these new paintings.
I didn’t get to see him that much in the week that I was there. Justifiably so, he was incredibly busy with all the wedding arrangements that needed to get done before the ceremony and the ensuing celebrations.
He’s always been a soul that I’ve shared a certain kinship with. Our personalities and tastes have always aligned and that was always a place of comfort growing up.
Sebastian has always been an incredibly selfless being. Although you might find him deep into his pursuits, he will drop everything and give you the utmost attention if you needed it. I’ve never met anyone kinder and more patient than him. Truly a remarkable human being.
At the wedding, while vows were being pronounced, the words that came from Sebastian’s mouth oscillated between the softness of a feather and the blade of a sword. I’ve never thought I would let my guard down at an event like this but the words that were being uttered were truly disarming.
Sebastian has always been a very simple individual and has never gone out of his way to embellish his presence. This always added a little charm to his already mystifying nature. But when I finally got to see him this time, both his hands were adorned with rings. His engagement ring accompanied by an eagle on his left hand & his wedding ring on his right hand.
The backgrounds also provide meanings to these observations. The night of the wedding ceremony, Sebastian showed us his wedding ring by the dancefloor. This is what the viewer sees as the backdrop of “Sebastian’s Rings – II”
In “Sebastian’s Rings – I” The emerald green signals to the place where the afterparty (Tornaboda, I came to find out) took place and where Sebastian showed us his engagement & eagle rings for the first time.
